I recently wrote a remake of the 1984 ZX Spectrum game "Cavern Fighter" for the PC. I originally started writing it for the "Retro Remakes" competition but failed to meet the deadline. This was probably a good thing as I was able to concentrate on improving it.
Retro Remakes HitMan described it as "fanflippintastic excellent aceroony drink on a stick" - May 7th 2004.
A copy of Cavern Fighter is available from the download section.
I started writing Split Personalities for the Retro Remakes competition in 2004 but once again failed to meet the deadline. I continued to work on it for a while but have shelved it as I am working on other projects. I hope to finish the game by the end of this year (2005). Below are some screen shots of the latest version. As you can see it is nearly finished.
Back around 1987 I started work on an Amstrad game called Madballs for Ariolasoft. For those of you that are too young to remember, Madballs were a popular child's toy in the late eighties. After about a months work I put together a small demo but Ariolasoft seemed to have lost interest and it was shelved. I'm not sure but I think Ariolasoft sold the Madballs licence or never actually had it in the first place. Ocean software release a Madballs game in 1988 which was completely different to the pinball style that I was working on.
I have put an Amstrad "Snapshot" file in the Download section of this site. Please take time to read the "Readme file" that accompanies the file.
At the end of 1987 I was no longer working full time as a programmer. In my spare time I started work on a flip screen under water adventure. The story was that you had been given the job of exploring the murky waters of the river Styx. According to Greek mythology this river separates the world of the living from the world of the dead, winding around Hades nine times. It is your job to explore the river collecting objects and fighting off evil creatures. The area around the river is unstable and prone to earth quakes. Your small submarine is equipped with the latest seismic monitoring equipment so you are warned when something nasty is about to happen.
The screen shot is from an early demo that I was using to show potential software companies. The game was never finished as I started my own company selling classic cars instead. I may well finish it off as I still think it had some good ideas, so watch this space.
