Franz Josef Glacier

Saturday 31st March This is an enormous piece of ice. It never seemed to be far away as we were walking towards it. That was because of its size. It was however a long walk to get up to it.

It was worth it. As we got close there was a sound like a cannon going off. It was the glacier moving slightly. It scared everyone and no one moved for a few seconds. |

In the afternoon we got kitted out in waterproofs and ice climbing gear and went on a trip up on to the glacier. It seemed like Vietnam with four helicopters flying up dropping people off and flying away again. It was very quiet once they had gone. |
