Ted Milton seemed interesting but minor figure in his early-‘80s day. Retrospectively, however, as this second volume amply attests, he was hugely under-regarded. His use of the saxophone wasn’t uncommon in the post-punk era, but means he’s been left alone by revivalists who draw the line at brass. This makes him all the more unspoiled, as Milton matches his deranged and impassioned thought patterns on “Nights Before” and “Shoot And Shout” with squalling solo runs and multi-tongued vocals, while his band knock together intricately latticed backbeats for him to wave around.
