ROCK A ROLLA   Issue 4 2006

A band who have pretty much existed in obscurity since 1980, this is a collection of Blurt’s music from 1980 up until 1996. I respect the fact that these guys have continued to make music, play shows and put out records for all this time even though they haven’t reached the record-buying masses. See kids, it’s not all about being fucking ‘signed’ and developed’ and being chased around by A&R bozos and begin adored and accepted into club NME and making pretentious pouty videos and selling 16 sqajjillion stupid records. It’s about making music and enjoying it and whatever happens. Fuck’s sake. The music reminds me of maybe the Cardiacs but simpler. Actually, the Cardiacs drummer I think plays with these guys. Guitar, drums, and sax. Yep sax, but used in a minimal way that adds nicely to the whole thing. Also kind of reminds me of a more addressive Kleenex. A couple of the later songs even kind of sound like new Lords LP. Stripped down and nicely punchy arty punk.
