I was influenced by my uncle Greg when I was young. He used to build some kits and I became interested and I always watch him while assembling those. Then I got introduced to a local publication called Electronics Enthusiasts and I became an addict, sort of. Building the interesting projects like a logic probe, a digital alarm clock, guitar special effect, dozens of projects using the 555 timer. I have a breadboard, a DC power supply and common tools.
While I have built a couple of DIY audio projects in the past, all of them are solid state, transistor based amps. One of my most complex project was a solid state Sansui amplifier that my uncle Ross bought which has a complete schematic and PCB layout. I made my own PCB and stuffed it and it sure worked.
It was only in this century that I started interest with building audio stuff once more, and I became interested with DIY tubes after I acquired my Anthem Amp 1 and Pre 1L. There was an opportunity for me to attend a seminar on tubes conducted in the office of my dealer/friend who sells Tamura and other DIY parts. After that session, I pestered a lot of people and chose to build the JE Labs SRPP 2A3.
