My First Tube Amplifier

A couple of friends proved to be bad influences to this hobby. They have been asking me to try going for tube sound, and hear what I'm missing. So I scouted around for tube amplifiers and in my search it included the Dynaco ST-70, and a couple of others I don't know, most of which are lower powered than my Fase amplifier.

It didn't take long to acquired my first Tube gear- an Anthem Amp 1 and Anthem Pre-1L. I bought these from a nice dealer from Cebu- Sights and Sounds, owned and operated by Ferdi Ludo, great guy.

The Anthems won't fit on the current Flexy rack, in addition, I now have a Musical Fidelity X-LP phonostage to complement the Pre 1L which does not have a phono stage. I took the original cheap rack while trying to figure out what rack to make next.

Eventually, I had to modify my rack and made it sturdier with four legs to sustain the amplifier weight and add stability.

For this iteration, my gears are as follows:

  • Sources: Harman Kardon HD-750 HDCD player, Oracle Delphi Mk I turntable
  • Amplification: Fase Evoluzione PF-45 integrated, Anthem Amp 1 tube amplifier
  • Preamplifier: Anthem Pre 1L, Musical Fidelity X-LP phono stage
  • Speakers: Infinity Kappa 200 bookshelf
  • Cables/interconnects: Analysis Plus Oval speaker cable and interconnect, Silver Audio Silver Bullet 4.0 interconnect
