AmigaOne FAQ

Q: What is the AmigaONE?
A: The AmigaONE is a new Amiga computer made by Eyetech, under direction of Amiga Inc. The AmigaOne will be PPC based and have new hardware standards like, PCI, AGP, PS2, USB etc. that the classic Amiga never had. There are currently two AmigaOne boards, the AmigaOne G3 SE, which is a cheap version that has solider on CPU, meaning you can not upgrade the processor at a later date. The other is the AmigaONE XE, this has a G4 CPU connector that allows the CPU to be upgraded, but cost slightly more. A third system is planed called AmigaONE Lite this will be expandable as the XE, but will be smaller and cheaper. More details should be announced soon. Click here for more.

Q: Is the AmigaONE combatable with classic Amiga hardware?
The AmigaONE will be an independent computer and it’s likely that all the classic hardware will not be compatible. However many PC graphic boards and other PCI boards will be supported by the OS.

Q: Is AmigaONE an add on for the A1200/A4000?
A: No.

Q: What are the specs for the AmigaONE?
A: The specs are slightly different between the two boards the G3 SE and XE, you can find the basic specs that Amiga Inc original lined out here Remember though these are only a basic outline of what an AmigaOne system is, and many of the specs will vary and be improved on from different makers.

Q: What makes an official AmigaONE if Amiga aren't making it?
A: Eyetech have bought exclusives right to the AmigaOne, and are now consider as the official choice for the future Amiga system. However other system can be made compatible with the new AmigaOS (4.0), but must meet the zico specification set out by Amiga.

Q: What hardware can the AmigaOne use?
A: I recommend going to Eyetech FAQ for answers on this..

Q: How much, When, and What's included?
A: The AmigaONE G3 SE motherboard will be supplied with a G3 running at 600Mhz and the basic price for this is £360 (excluding local tax). The AmigaONE XE, which has a CPU connection. You can have either a G3 or a G4 running at 800Mhz, cost from £450 (excluding local tax). Complete systems are also on offer, double these figures to get a close price. (Eyetech systems & price are located here)

Q: What is the AmigaONE G3 SE?
A: This is the first AmigaOne model available, it has a G3 running at 600Mh solider on to cut down the costs. This is the cheapest and lowest spec AmigaOne available.

Q: What is the AmigaONE XE?
A: This basicly has the same specs as the A1 G3SE but has a CPU connector allowing users to upgrade there CPU`s at a later date. Eyetech has shipped all the XE with the G4 running at 800Mhz.

Q: What’s the AmigaONE Lite?
A: Eyteech latest AmigaOne model due out soon, the AmigaLite is a much smaller and faster motherboard than the AmigaONE XE, it will also offer a CPU connector, but be as cheap as the G3SE.

Q: What's the next planed AmigaOne?
A: The AmigaTWO? At current Eyetech are working on the AmigaONE Lite, and continue to improve its current range of AmigaONE system.

Q: Dose the AmigaONE require an A1200/A4000?
A: The Eyetech AmigaOne`s system and any system running Os4.0 will NOT require classic Amiga hardware to run Os4.0.

Q: Why would I what an AmigaONE over an  PPC upgrade?
A: The AmigaOne is the next and in my view the only step forward for the future of Amiga. A PPC upgrade will allow you to run OS4.0 but it wont be as fast as a AmigaOne system, also you will need PCI board for GFX and after a while it will be very hard to upgrade your classic Amiga any more, pulse the fact that once OS4.2 comes out you may have to upgrade to an AmigaOne system!

The amount of new feature is has will be the same as OS3.9 but each area will be improved on, in speed.

Q: Dose the AmigaOS4.0 require an AmigaONE?
A: No, the OS will require the same specs as an AmigaOne system but will not require AmigaOne hardware. The OS will run on current PPC Amiga system and many other PPC system like Pegasos system by Bplan.
